Karien is a documentary playwright from Amsterdam, who's work investigates the interaction between individual, community and government. Her plays emerge from a collaboration with theatre groups and local communities and mostly take place in public space. Next to this she acts as an adviser, both invited and uninvited, to local goverment on the topics art, broedplaatsen and participative democracy. Over 15 years ago she co-created cultuurgebouw Tugela85 in the Tranvaalbuurt, Amsterdam Oost.
